Obediah Garwood's will was probated in Fayette Co., PA on 3 Jul 1798. [Will
Book 1-41] The will  reads: (punctuation added)

"Know all men by these presents, that I, Obed Garwood Senr., of Luzerne
Township, Fayette County and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; considering the
uncertainties of this mortal life; Do make and publish this my Last will and
Testament in manner and form following: Viz. first that all my just debts be
discharged as soon as may be convenient after my decease out of monies due me
and my personal effects - and that my saw mill with the land adjoining be
disposed of as soon as my executors may think best - secondly I give and
bequeath to my beloved wife 1 case of drawers, her choice of a bed and
bedding and a third part of the rest of my household furniture (except the
clock and rest of the bedding) to be also at her choice, with that of due law
- I likewise give and bequeath to my beloved wife an annual Dower of the sum
of fifty dollars to be paid to her yearly and every year by my son Jesse, or
out of the Estate which I leave to him during her natural life. Thirdly I
give and devise to my son Joseph all that tract of land in Greene County
adjoining Widow Blackledge, John Hogdon, Daniel Moredock &c with the
appurtenances to his use, his heirs and assigns forever with his paying my
Daughter Rebecca the sum of seventy Dollars in one year after my decease; and
to my daughter Rachel the like sum of seventy Dollars in two years after my
decease; and to my daughter Elizabeth a like sum of Seventy Dollars in three
years after my decease; and to my daughter Mary a like sum of seventy Dollars
in four years after my decease, making in all 280 Dollars to which payments
to my said daughters, or their heirs, in manner aforesaid, said tract of land
is and shall be liable till payment be made, or the matter compounded with
each and every of my said Daughters, their heirs &c as the case may require. F
ourthly My son Obed, having had his part in the payment for the land sold to
Abraham Miley, to him I give and bequeath only an additional sum of sixty
Dollars to be paid out of the sales of my Saw Mill tract or personal
property; the residue of which sales (after payment of my just debts, the 60
Dollars to my son Obed, and the reservation to my beloved wife to be
observed) I give and bequeath equally to my four daughters Rebecca, Rachel,
Elizabeth and Mary, or their heirs. - Fifthly I give and devise to my
Grandson Benedict Garwood, son of Samuel Garwood, deceased, the following lot
or tract of land. Beginning at a corner lying Black Oak between Armstrong
Porter and myself thence northwest thirty perches to the corner of my field,
thence a north easterly course to a red oak on the line between Charles Gause
and myself, thence one hundred and sixteen perches to a Sigar tree next to
Michael Cox's, thence to a red oak corner and from thence to the place of
beginning, computed to be about One hundred and twelve acres or there abouts,
which tract I give and devise to my said Grandson, his heirs or assigns
forever, provided nevertheless that he is not to enjoy or possess the same
until he arrives  to the age of twenty one years, and until he arrives to
that age, the profits arising from the said tract, I give and bequeath to my
four daughters, aforsaid, in equal division, excepting and reserving to my
daughter in law Sarah, widow of my son Samuel Garwood, the sum of thirty
Dollars to be paid to her out of the first rent that shall be come due from
said premises to that amount. - said Benedict is to pay his Sister Mary
Garwood, fifty four dollars when she arrives to the age of twenty one years
and to pay fifty four dollars to his Sister Susanna when she arrives to the
age of twenty one years. He is also to pay each of his said Sisters the sum
of fifty dollars when they arrive to the age of twenty two years and a like
sum of fifty dollars to each of them when at the age of twenty three years.
And if either of his said Sisters should not live to receive each and every
of their said legacies, nor have heirs or heir, he is to pay the sum or sums
left to each of them to the surviving one. Provided further, if said Benedict
should not live to the age of twenty one years, nor have lawful heirs or
issue, then the land which I leave to him as above described is to be
disposed of, and equally divided among my children or their lawful heirs.
Sixthly I give and devise to my son Jesse, my present dwelling and all the
land not heretofore granted or devised, with the appurtenances to him, his
heirs and assigns forever, with his paying his mother the sum of fifty
dollars, yearly and every year during her natural life as aforesaid. The said
tract of land & premises to be subject to the payment thereof. Let whoever
may possess, hold or occupy the same, and the tract left to Benedict is also
to be subject to the Legacies to be paid by him if it should come to him or
his heirs and whether or not. And Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint
Jonas Cattell of Redstone, Joseph Townsend of Westland Washington County and
my son Jesse Garwood to be executors of this my Last will and Testament to
see that the same be esecuted according to the true intent and meaning
thereof as far as they may be enabled. Hereby revoking and making void all
former wills by me made. In testimony, whereof, I the said Obed Garwood
Senr., have hereto set my hand and seal, this twenty third day of the Seventh
month, AD one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight.
