Dr. Rose Dies At Home In Georgia

Former Johnstonian Passes After Brief Illness: Visited Friends Here
Two Weeks Ago

Dr. E.P. Rose died at his home in Valdosta, Ga., on June 1, after
a brief illness of about three days' duration. He was born and reared
in Meadow Township and was the youngest son of the late B.B. Rose.
He was about 68 years of age.

When a young man he fastered the common school courses, and went to
medical college, graduating in medicine in the class with Dr. L.A.
Muns, of Smithfield, and Dr. R.B. Wilson, of Newton Grove.

He practiced his profession for a short time after his graduation at
Fayetteville and when still a young man went to Valdosta, Ga., where
he continued in his profession.

Later he made large investments in real estate and engaged in the
naval stores business and in this line he made a great success.

He married in Georgia and has there in the city of Valdosta reared a
large family of children.

Through all the years of his absence from Johnston County, he has
remained faithful to his home folks and institutions. He has for the
most of his time been a subscriber to the Herald, and he has maintained
his membership in the Masonic body with the old Mill Creek Lodge No.
125 at Newton Grove in Sampson County.

He has from time to time returned to the scenes of his younger days,
and only two weeks ago he was in Smithfield, the guest of T.R. Hood and
members of his family. While here on his last visit he visited friends
and relatives in Meadow township and his friend and classmate, Dr.
R.B. Wilson of Newton Grove.

Dr. Rose was a cousin of Dr. A.H. Rose, and an uncle of H.V. Rose and
Mrs. Alice Hood of this place.
