Valdosta Times, May 1, 1897
On April 20th, Mrs. Sarah Passmore, after a long extended illness, was
summoned to lay down the cross of life and take up the crown of immortality.
She was married to J.A.B. Passmore in 1879, and was the mother of five
children. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a member of the Baptist
Church and a true Christian. Her life had been given to the relief of the
suffering, nursing the afflicted back to health and strength, and more than
all poured into the ears of the dying the consolation derived from a faith in
the truth of revealed religion exemplified in her own life. She was confined
to her bed seventy-two days, suffering intensely, bearing afflictions with
much patience which she did for the glory of God and was ready for the
summons, gladly taking her flight with the angels of Heaven, telling her
affectionate husband that she was going to live with one of her children, who
had gone before, leaving him to care for the other four and to raise them up
in the way they should go, with the blessed hope of eternal glory and unbroken
family in the Kingdom of Heaven to part no more. Her cheering words, her
genial smile, her hearty greeting, will be missed. On April 21st, her remains
were laid away in the family burial ground. There was one of the largest
funeral processions we ever witnessed. Brother J.W. Bonse conducted the
service calling on W.W. Webb, who responded expressing for himself and through
him for others, their heartfelt sympathies for the bereaved, and especially
for Mr. Passmore who was so devoted to his wife, and so anxious for her
recovery. He sat by her bedside, sleeping only as she slept there for seventy-
two days and nights, letting her lack for nothing that he could do or have
done, and we all join in saying to him, "well done thou good and faithful
servant", faith in God will carry you safely to your sainted wife to part no
more. A Friend.
