Nashville, Dec. 4. Funeral services for Mr. John J. Giddens who died in this city at five o'clock p.m., were conducted by his pastor, Elder Duncan McCranie, assisted by Elder J.B. Luke, at Cat Creek church in Lowndes county yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and interment was in the cemetery at that place alongside others of his relatives formerly buried there. A large concourse of relatives, friends and acquaintances were in attendance to pay their respects and attend the last sad rites at the interment of a well-known and beloved citizen of our city and county whose passing causes a pang of sorrow to many hearts. Mr. Giddens is survived by his wife who was before her marriage to Mr. Giddens, Miss Ada Swindle, and his children as follows: Murray, Wilson and Mrs. Nautha Belle Preston. Another daughter, Jewel, preceded her father to the grave about three weeks. One brother, Mr. James Giddens of Valdosta, survives. Mr. Giddens was born in the Cat Creek vicinity of Lowndes County, a son of Silas and Mary Jane Giddens, but being orphaned by the death of his parents at an early age, he was employed in various capacities, chiefly as a laborer, until his manhood was reached, when he was married and soon after came to Nashville where he has been engaged in the mercantile business practically ever since, the principal part of the time in partnership with Mr. Z.R.
