 Joe Brown Gaskins, 77, of Valdosta died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at South 
Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Berrien Co. on April 9, 1926, to the 
late Joseph A. and Sally Brown Gaskins and had lived in Valdosta for 30 years. 
Mr. Gaskins was retired from the U.S. Navy after 26 years of service and from 
LARC after 16 years of service. He was a member of the America Legion, VFW and 
Greenwood Baptist Church.

 Survivors include his children and their spouses, Ronald J. Gaskins of 
Valdosta, Faye and David Newsome of Quitman, Joyce and Johnny Lancaster of 
Valdosta, Linda Daugherty of Hahira; six grandchildren, Shannon Harper, Shawn 
Lancaster, Lisa Parks, Laura Babcock, Adam Daugherty and Blake Daugherty; six 
great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special cousin, Ed Willis.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Belle Burnsed Gaskins. Funeral 
services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 in the chapel of Carson 
McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Benny Woods officiating. Burial will follow in 
Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Berrien Co. with full 
military honors at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. 
today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Dialysis Center of South GA.

 Carson McLane Funeral Home of Valdosta was in charge of arrangements.
