 John Fletcher, Jr.

   John S. Fletcher, Jr. of Avondale Estates, GA died suddenly at his 
home on Sunday, September 1, 1996.
   Mr. Fletcher graduated Avondale High School and the
  Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a member of Sigma Alpha 
Epsilon fraternity. He earned his MBA at Georgia State University. Mr. 
Fletcher served as mayor of Avondale Estates, GA from 1973 to 1983, was 
chairman in 1978 of the Dekalb County Board of Education, and served on 
the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners
  from 1984 to 1992. A graduate of Leadership Georgia and Leadership 
Atlanta, he was named one of Atlanta's Five Outstanding Young Men in 
1975 and in 1976 was proclaimed the Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 
DeRalb County.
 His career in public relations included ownership of The Rainbow Tree 
Corporatidn and,later, John Fletcher &
Associates, rec, At his death,Mr. Fletcher was executive vice president 
of the Atlanta office of Golin Harris Communications Inc. Included in 
his client service is a I5-year relationship with the Greater Atlanta
McDonald's Operators' Association for which he received from McDonald's 
Corporation two Marketing Achievement
Awards and the most prestigious Al Golin Award..
 An Eagle Scout, Mr. Fletcher was involved in charitable and civic work, 
including, most recently, helping raise in excess of $1 million for the 
construction of a second Atlanta Ronald McDonald House and serving on 
the board of directors of Camp Twin Lakes.
 A memorial service was held Friday, September 6 at 10:30 a.m. at 
Decatur First Methodist Church.
 He is survived by his wife,Emily Tyler Fletcher, formerly of Ocilla; 
his daughters:Maribeth Bell and Holly Fletcher; his mother: Daizye Belle 
Fletcher; and a brother Thomas.
