Velma J. Rogers
The funeral service for Velma J, Rogers of 209 Beech St., Ocilla, who died 
Saturday,  February 1, 1997 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, will be 
held Wednesday, February 5 at Riverbend  Baptist Church in Irwin county. She 
was 71.
Rev. George Paulk and Rev. J.A. Clements officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service 
with interment in Mt, Paron Cemetery in Berrien county. 
Pallbearers were Jonathan Pierce, Justin Pierce, Benjamin Pierce, Cam Pierce, 
Ray Pierce, Chris Gaines, Mike Champion, Jason Gaines, Stanley Harper. Honorary 
pallbearers were deacons of Riverbend Church and Roge Michael.
The deceased was born  December 15, 1925 in Irwin county to John A. and Emma 
Tucker Joiner. A homemaker and seamstress, she was a member of Riverbend 
Baptist Church and had lived most her life in Irwin county. The widow of Riley 
Monroe Rogers, Mrs. Rogers was a former employee of H. R. Kaminsky & Son.
She is survived by three sons: Wayne Pierce of Atlanta, David Pierce of Albany, 
Danny Pierce of Ocilla; two stepsons: Billy Spicer of Ocilla and Randy Rogers 
of Stonefort, IL; seven stepdaughters: Jeanette Parrott of Chicago, IL, Velma 
Champion of Orlando, FL, Patricia Harper of Ocilla, Jackie Gaines of 
Fitzgerald, Sandra Rowe of Ocilla, Shirley Conlin of Yuma, AZ, and Susan 
Massett of St. Augustine, FL;20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 
great great grandchild; one brother: Otis Joiner of Freeport, FL, Preceded in 
death by first husband and 2nd husband, G, W. Pierce and Leon Spicer and one 
daughter, Emma Jean Pierce.
	Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
