Homer Purvis

The funeral service for Homer Purvis of Rt 1, Alapaha, who died Monday, 
February 16, 1998 at Tift General Hospital, was held Wednesday, February 18 at 
Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County. He was 80.
Rev. George Paulk and Elder Paul Thomas officiated at the 3:00 p.m. service 
with interment in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Troy Spicer, Scott Mobley, Franklin Purvis, Elliott McDaniel, 
Herman Purvis, Marvin Paulk, and Brent Roberts. Organist was Brenda Paulk. .
The deceased was born January 1, 1918 in Berrien County to Oscar and Nellie 
Brogdon Purvis. A retired farmer and former owner and operator of Purvis Store 
in the Gladys Community and a member of Spring Hill Church, Mr. Purvis had 
lived in the community all his life and was the former adjustor for 	Crop 
Hail Adjustment Bureau.
He is survived by wife, Myrtle Purvis of the Gladys Community; two sons: Jimmy 
K. Purvis of Albany and Wayne Purvis of Gladys; one daughter: Betty Ruth 
Wilkinson of Valdosta; two brothers: Floyd Purvis of Gladys and Talmadge Purvis 
of Alapaha; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
