Dr. D. F. McCrimmon died Friday, July 15th, 1904, after an illness of some
two years, during which his sufferings were severe.
His funeral was conducted at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon by Rev.
F. M. Blalock, assisted by Rev. C. W. Littlejohn. There was a large
congregation present to evince the esteem in which the deceased was held by
all classes of our people. The services were deeply impressive.
Eulogies were pronounced by both ministers upon the life and character of
Dr. McCrimmon, in which his heroic life was exalted. Virtues were held up for
the contemplation of the living
At the church the remains were taken charge of by the Masonic fraternity,
of which ancient order be an honored member, and consigned to rest in the city
cemetery, with the touching ceremonies of that craft. Dr. McCrimmon was the
son of Charles and Elizabeth McCrimmon, and was born in Montgomery County.,
Georgia, on May 20th, 1835, being in the 70th year of his age at the time of
his death.
In 1860 he graduated at Oglethorpe Medical College, and shortly afterward
removed to Wilcox County.
In 1864 he was married to Miss Rebecca Willcox, daughter of the late Capt.
Thomas L. Willcox.
He was a pioneer citzen of Rochelle. His active professional life of full
forty years was spent in this county; and he leaves behind him the savor of
life spent in the service of his fellowman, and the memory of a name which
will live in the hearts of a grateful and appreciative people.
In every relation of life Dr. McCrimmon measured up to the full standard of
a good and true neighbor, friend, husband, father, physician and Christian.
As a citizen he stood in the front ranks.
In 1892 and 1893 he represented Wilcox County in the General Assembly of
Georgia.
Generous to a fault, he never turned a deaf ear to the appeals of charity.
Sympathetic of soul, he never failed to exert his utmost strength and skill
to relieve human suffering.
For many years he was a faithful member of the Baptist church. As long as
his strength permitted he was a punctual attendant on public worship at his
own and other churches, and the Christian minister in our midst had no better
friend than he. He stood for all that was good and against that which was
bad. Loved and lamented by all who knew him, this good man has gone to his
reward. -- Rochelle New Era. (Source:MM)
Note: MM is the Montgomery Monitor, Mount Vernon.
