  DOUGLAS -- Mrs. Betty Griffin Highsmith, age 86, of Douglas, passed away on 
Thursday, April 6, 2006, at home after an extended illness.
  Mrs. Highsmith, a native of Irwin County, was born Dec. 14, 1919, daughter of 
the late Alford and Alice McMillan Griffin. She was a homemaker and the widow 
of the late Luther Daniel Highsmith. Her church membership was at the Douglas 
First Assembly of God.
  Sons Raymond Highsmith and Danny Highsmith preceded her in death.
  Survivors include her daughters, Grace Kirkland and C.H. Knight, 
Willacoochee, Shirley Deems and Glenda (Tom) Soles, Douglas, Evelyn (Charles) 
Corbett, Lake Park; her sons, Robert (Shirley) Highsmith, Cleveland, Billy 
(Nita) Highsmith, Sorrento, FL, Jack Highsmith, St. Cloud, FL, 25 
grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great-grandchildren; several 
nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at the First Assembly of God in Douglas 
with the Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. Burial followed in the Paulk 
Cemetery, Lax -- Sims Funeral Home
