 Mrs. Dorothy Frances Ziegler Benton, age 81 of Douglas, GA died of 
complications from Steven-Johnson Syndrome on Monday, January 9, 2006, at the 
Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers, GA. She is the widow of the late Mr. Alvin 
Benton.
 Born May 9, 1924, in Niagara Falls, NY, Mrs. Benton is the daughter of the 
late Frederick and Pauline Barton Ziegler. The youngest of eight children, she 
is preceded in death by her siblings, Julia Burns, Dolores Snyder, Edna 
Tappendorf, Ernest Ziegler, Louis Ziegler, Eamale Ziegler, and Frederick 
Ziegler, Jr. As a young woman in Niagara Falls, Dorothy Benton excelled at 
playing the piano, and she preformed in school orchestras and on radio programs.
 Mrs. Dorothy Benton has been a resident of Coffee County for the last 42 
years. With her late husband, Alvin Benton, she operated businesses in Douglas. 
In addition to her work as a businesswoman, she was a homemaker and mother.
 Her church membership was Holy Family Catholic Church, Willacoochee.
 Mrs. Benton is survived by many immediate and extended family members 
including a son, John Alvin Benton of Cumming, GA; daughter-in-law, Rae Lynn 
Benton of Cumming, GA; daughter, Dr. Janet Benton of Douglas, GA; her adored 
grandson, John Zachary of Cumming, GA; two sisters in law and two brothers in 
law survive her also; Waunelle Kimbrel, Douglas, GA, Geneva Fields, Lithia 
Spring, GA, Elton Benton, Douglas, GA; and Larry Benton, Douglas, GA. Many 
beloved nieces and nephews survive Mrs. Dorothy Benton too.
 Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Saint 
Paul's Catholic Church. Pastor and family friend, Father Daniel O'Connell, 
officiated. The Saint Paul's Catholic Church choir, under the direction of 
organist Ginger Burress, provided musical selections befitting the religious 
ceremony. Entombment followed at Douglas City Cemetery. 
 Active pallbearers were Jesse Benton, Larry Benton, Rick Benton, Tim Benton, 
Gary Fields, Eugene Cole, Chris Willis.
 Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
