Bernice Johnson
Services for Bernice Johnson, 86, Thomasville, are at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 
2003 at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, U.S. Hwy. 319 South, 
Thomasville. The Rev. Dr. Leon Jones, pastor officiating, and interment is in 
Magnolia Cemetery in Thomasville. Mrs. Johnson died May 21 at Camellia Gardens 
of Life Care in Thomasville. Born April 11, 1917 in Clanton, Ala., she was a 
daughter of the late Sarah Jackson. She was married to Willie H. Johnson Sr., 
who preceded her in death in January 1978. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Piney 
Grove Missionary Baptist Church, was a domestic worker and had lived in 
Thomasville for 59 years after moving from Autaugavilla, Ala. Survivors include 
a son, Edgar J. Birks of Washington, D.C.; grandsons, Victor Birks, Mandrell 
Birks both of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter, Sharee Birks of Washington, 
D.C.; great-grandsons, Darien and Brandon Birks of Washington, D.C.; stepson, 
Willie H. (Louise) Johnson Jr. of Thomasville; nieces, Bertha Drain, Henrietta 
Lamar, Ruby Motley all of Detroit, Mich.; nephews, John Wesley Jackson Jr. of 
Montgomery, Ala., Roosevelt Jackson of South Carolina, Alex Golson of Detroit, 
Mich.; a host of loving great-nieces, nephews, loving cousins and friends. The 
procession will assemble at noon, Saturday at 114 Bosser Ave. Mrs. Johnson will 
be on view from 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with no viewing after the
