  Edwin Forrest Horne, 86, of Thomasville died June 23, 2009, at Golden Living C
Center in Thomasville.
  Born March 11, 1923, in Thomasville to the late Mamie Bennett and Edwin 
Forrest Horne Sr., he was owner of Horne's Grocery and was married to Hazel W. 
Horne of Thomasville. Serving in the U.S. Army, in WWII, he served in the Third 
Army under the command of Gen. George Patton. He was assigned to the 38th
Anti-Aircraft Artillery Brigade, serving in the 565th Anti
Aircraft Artillery Brigade, serving in the 565th Anti-Aircraft Automatic 
Weapons Unit, where he fought at the Battle of the Bulge. His unit was the 
first to land on the beaches of Normandy. He was a life-long member of First 
Baptist Church. He attended Thomasville High School and the University of 
Georgia. He was an avid gardener and fisherman who had a love for nature and 
the great outdoors. He was a life-long resident of Metcalf and Thomasville.
  Survivors, in addition to his wife, include daughters, Kathy H. Palmer and Libbi
Libbi H. Howell (Bill), both of Thomasville, and Peggy H. Gaskins (Doug) of 
Nashville; grandson, Will Palmer (Morgan) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; great-grandson,
Edwin Fordham Palmer of Santa Rosa Beach; sister, Mary H. 
grandson, Edwin Fordham Palmer of Santa Rosa Beach; sister, Mary H. Mahony of Aug
Augusta; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dor
Dorothy H. Trulock and a brother, Bennett F. Horne.
  Funeral services were held June 25 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Re
Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner officiating.
  Interment was in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
  Active pallbearers were Willis L. Palmer, Richard Hunsucker, Rick Horne, F
Felix Horne, John Trulock and Neil Joiner.
  Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home of Thomasville was in charge of arrangements.
