Edna Merritt Groover
Services for Edna Merritt Groover, 97, Thomasville, are at 10:30 a.m., 
Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Ochlocknee United Methodist Church. The Rev. Chris 
Shoemaker will officiate and interment is in Ochlocknee City Cemetery. Active 
pallbearers are Bob Merritt, Marc Merritt, David Merritt, Fred Merritt, Frank 
Harrison, Steve Strickland, Robert Braswell, Josh Herring and Don Oliver. Mrs. 
Groover died July 17 in Thomasville. Born Aug. 17, 1905 in Thomas County, she 
was a daughter of the late Robert Lee Merritt and Elizabeth Pilcher. On Dec. 
21, 1925 in Ochlocknee, she married James Thomas Groover, who preceded her in 
death. She was a graduate of Ochlocknee High School and attended Valdosta 
State College for Women. She was a lifetime resident of Thomas County, a 
homemaker, member United Methodist Church of Ochlocknee where she served as 
church organist and pianist, active in the Missionary Society and taught 
Sunday school. Mrs. Groover also taught piano and organ. Survivors include a 
son, James Merritt Groover and his wife, Marguerite Palin Groover of 
Ochlocknee; grandsons, James Anderson Groover and wife Faith, Richard Groover 
Tucker; granddaughters, Merritt Groover Scott and husband, Rick, Cynthia 
Tucker Loffer and husband, Myron; sister, Carol Merritt Harrison of Moultrie; 
eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a number of nieces and 
nephews; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Groover Collins of Camilla and Mrs. John 
Merritt of Chester, Va. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Groover 
Tucker and a grandson, Warren Hubert Tucker III. The family will receive 
friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, 
memorials may be made to Ochlocknee United Methodist Church. -- Whiddon-Shiver
