William Carter Sr.
Services for William Carter Sr., 49, Thomasville, are at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 
25, 2003 at Mercy Seat Christian Church, 678 Mercy Seat Rd., Thomasville. The 
Rev. Dr. Leon Jones, pastor officiating, and interment is in Peaceful Rest 
Cemetery in Thomasville. Active pallbearers are Robert Thompson, Al Fann, L.D. 
Jones, Al Walden, Craig Walden and John Smith. Mr. Carter died May 21 at 
Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville. Born Jan. 5, 1954 in Newton, Baker 
County, Ga., he was a son of Mattie Carter and the late Neal Carter Sr. He 
attended Central High School and a member of Mercy Seat Christian Church. He 
lived in Thomasville for 49 years, a mechanic and was disabled. Survivors 
include his mother, Mattie Carter of Thomasville; companion, Mary Swain of 
Thomasville; daughters, Lakesha Hanks, Yashica Jones both of Miami, Fla.; a 
son, William Carter Jr. of Cairo; brother, Neal Carter Jr. of Thomasville; 
sister, Bettye Jackson of Meigs; brother, Robert Carter Sr. of Thomasville; 
sister, Ernestine Williams of Thomasville; brother, John Carter Sr. of 
Thomasville; sister, Katie Jenkins of Meigs; brother, Barnard Carter Sr. of 
Thomasville; sisters, Annie Gooding, Deborah Carter both of Thomasville; 
grandmother, Bessie Anderson of Thomasville; and a host of other relatives and 
friends. The procession will assemble at 1:15 p.m., Sunday at 544 W. Clay St.,
