Albert P. Benton
Services for Albert P. Benton, 86, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m. Monday, June 
30, 2003, at Parkway Church of God. Interment will be at Little Ochlocknee 
Baptist Church Cemetery. The Revs. Dan Tomberlin, Charles Blair and W.A. 
Bingham will officiate. Mr. Benton, the last charter member of New Hope Church 
of God, died Friday, June 27, 2003, at Camellia Gardens. A son of Henry Paxton 
(Pack) and Elizabeth Busbee Benton, he was born on Sept. 28, 1916, in Thomas 
County. Mr. Benton was married to Montine Rawlins Benton on Jan. 16, 1937. 
They were married for 53 years until her death on June 1, 1990. He later 
married Hazel Bond Carter Benton, who preceded him in death. He was currently 
married to Marie Norman Benton, who survives. Mr. Benton was a retired farmer. 
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, A. Edward and Jean Benton of 
Ochlocknee, Larry Austin and Peggy Benton of Meigs; daughters and sons-in-law, 
Serena and Albert Swilley of Valdosta; Patricia and Gordon Lee of Ochlochnee. 
Other survivors include three brothers, Eugene Benton of Palm Bay, Fla., James 
L. Benton of Easley, S.C., Wesley Benton of Apopka, Fla.; six sisters, Myrtice 
Bloodworth of Ochlocknee, Margaret Lairsey of Barnwell, S.C., Ruby Loyd of 
Meigs, Evelyn Roberts of Tallahassee, Fla., Deoris Vinson of Ochlocknee, Marie 
Lowe of Barnwell, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are 10 
grandchildren, Stanley P. Benton of Bainbridge, Stephanie B. and Wayne 
Williams of Soperton, Letitia S. and Robert Ibarra of Jackson, Miss., Andrea 
S. and Herbert Hopper of Adel, Lori S. and Jim Bennett of Valdosta, Al and 
Lori Swilley of Valdosta, F.J. Lee of Ochlocknee, Sophia Lee of Ochlocknee, 
Regina B. and Charles Bruce Jr. of Dawson, and Shalon Benton of Valdosta. 
Great-grandchildren surviving include Conner Wilson, Chelsea Ibarra, Chase 
Ibarra, Alexandrea Hopper, Joseph Hopper, Austin Bennett, Sam Bennett, Kahlan 
Bruce, and Rebecca Bruce. Mr. Benton's first priorities of life were his 
relationships with his Heavenly Father and family. The family will receive 
friends from 5 to 7 Sunday at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Friends may sign the
