Mary Jean Chalkley Alligood
Services for Mary Jean Chalkley Alligood of Thomasville are at 4 p.m. 
Thursday, June 5, 2003 at First Baptist Church Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Milton C. 
Gardner will officiate and interment is in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Alligood 
died June 1 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 26, 1926, in Colquitt 
County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Victor and Idelle Holland 
Chalkley. On Oct. 12, 1963, in Doerun, Ga., she married Hubert Alligood, who 
preceded her in death. She was the former owner of Alligood Tire Service. She 
was a member of First Baptist Church. She was past president and treasurer of 
the Thomasville Woman's Club, a member of the Briarcliff Garden Club and was 
past president of the Countess Vandal Garden Club. She also served on the 
board of the 2nd District of Georgia's Federation of Women's Clubs, and served 
as chair, community improvement program. She was also a charter member of the 
Pilot Club. Survivors include daughters, Joy Alligood of Thomasville, Dawn 
Alligood of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Richard Goldsmith of 
Atlanta; sister-in-law, Cora Rice of Moultrie; brother-in-law, Bradford 
Alligood of Thomasville; sister-in-law, Christine Knapp of Tulsa, Okla.; 
nephews, Douglas H. Chalkley of Toney, Ala. and Jim Chalkley of Moultrie and 
dear friend, Fred Johnson of Thomasville. Donations may be made to Thomasville 
Garden Clubs Inc., P.O. Box 1273, Thomasville, Ga., 31799 or Tallulah Falls 
School, P.O. Box 10, Tallulah Falls, Ga., 30573. The family will receive 
friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Visitors may sign the

Two-car accident claims woman

THOMASVILLE -- A 77-year-old Thomasville woman, who had presided over local 
organizations, died late Sunday afternoon in a wreck at a city intersection.

Mary Jean Chalkley Alligood, former owner of Alligood Tire Service, died when 
the 1996 Oldsmobile Delta 88 she was driving traveled into the path of a 2003 
Toyota Tacoma at the intersection of North Pine Tree Boulevard and Patterson 
Still Road.

The Toyota was driven by Sarah Lynn Westburg, 17, Cairo, who was treated and 
dismissed at Archbold Memorial Hospital.
