Raymond R. Mellott Sr. 
Sanford, Fla., 90 

Raymond Robison Mellott Sr. 90, of Sanford, Fla., died Sunday, March 29, 2009. 
He was born on October 8, 1918, in Needmore, to Richard E. Mellott and 
Elizabeth Wink. 
He entered the military in October 1940 and served in Europe from 1944 to 1945. 
He was engaged in several battles, including the Battle of the Bulge under Gen. 
George Patton. He was awarded the Bronze Star among other medals. 
He worked at many diverse occupations during his younger years: farmer, tractor 
driver in the paper wood business and as a furniture and assembly fitter at a 
furniture factory. He became a Christian at an early age and taught Sunday 
School for many years and also served as a lay speaker. He had a desire to get 
involved in missionary work. He enrolled in their training program after 
visiting New Tribes Institute in 1962 at Jersey Shore, Pa. When he completed 
the training, he went to Brazil, South America, in 1965. He served in many 
different capacities such as supply buying, maintenance, survey trips, 
coordinator of different areas and government business. He entered the Culina 
Tribe and worked there for a short period. 
He was married to Lena Elizabeth Shives on January 23, 1943. They spent nearly 
19  years in Brazil. 
He is survived by his wife, Lena; his son, Raymond Mellott Jr., and wife Abby; 
granddaughter, Margaret Hall and husband Ron; grandsons: Raymond III and wife 
Kari, Andrew and Danny; great-grandsons: Thomas and Jacob Hall and great-
granddaughter, Lydia Mellott. 
Funeral services were held on April 2, 2009, at Brisson Funeral Home. A 
military burial with honors followed at 2:30 at Florida National Cemetery in 
Bushnell, Fla
