Passes To A Higher Life

Charles Bradway, Sr. was born June 26, 1817, in Salem County, New Jersey. He
was married to Miss Rachael Roberts in March, 1843, and removed with his
family to Jackson County, Iowa, in the Spring of 1862, where his wife passed
to a higher life four weeks later. There was born to this union eight
children, four of whom Edwin, Beulah, Charles and Albert, survive him. In 1873
he was married to Mrs. Lucinda Humes, who preceded him in death in 1893. Mr.
Bradway was one of the few who was endowed with the necessary qualifications
to round out a most beautiful and noble life. He was a close student of nature
and her divine laws, which through his force of character and fine
intellectual attainments, he was enabled to follow. His life was one worthy of
emulation. He was true and just to himself, his family and his neighbors. He
was a man of exceedingly good judgment and worked to better the conditions of
mankind. He was conversant upon almost any subject that might be introduced,
and was capable of discussing the same in a clear and comprehensive manner. He
was a man of fine sensibilities and was attributed with nothing but the purest
motives. He was a man in life it was a pleasure to meet, and by his acts in
life he secured the confidence and esteem of his many friends and
acquaintances. He was like the ripened grain, ready to be garnered home and
prepared for a further unfoldment in the cycles of time. He closed out his
present life on the old homestead in Farmers Creek Township on Friday, March
5, 1897. The funeral services were held at the Esgate School House at 2:30
o'clock Sunday afternoon, Mrs. J. M. Harvey, pastor of the Spiritual Society,
officiating.
