Jesse Salter was the son of James Salter and Elizabeth Coulson (born abt 1803 in
GA) (d/o Daniel Coulson and Synthia Potts) He was the grandson of Simon J.
Salter, Rev. War veteran.

Jesse was born Mar 26, 1824 [*tombstone]. He had numerous brothers and sisters
including John Ross Salter (?1827-Aug 29, 1887); Elizabeth Salter (Dec 5,
1830-Nov 22, 1900) who married Renderson Cobb.

Jesse married Aug 28, 1859 Lucinda Ruffin, the daughter of James J. and Sarah
Averett Ruffin of Taylor County. Lucinda was born Dec 30, 1839. [Ruffin Bible].
They made their home in Sumter County, probably on the family farm as Jesse's
father, James died 1855/60 and his mother by 1862. (estate papers 1862)

In the year 1862, Jesse's father's [James] estate was divided. He had died
around 1855, and probably his mother, Elizabeth died in 1862, thus the division

Lucinda and Fannie died on the same day, Sept 12, 1871. They are also buried in
the Capt Simon J. Salter family cemetery.

Jesse was left with Eugene, 10, Henry J, 8, and Mollie only 4. Did Lucinda's
parents help out or was Jesse's mother, Elizabeth Salter still living?
