FUNERAL SERVICES HELD MONDAY FOR ELLAVILLE OFFICER
A 19 year old Buena Vista, Ga. Negro is being held in Sumter County jail on a 
charge of murder in the shooting of Ellaville policeman John Harden.
Harden, 46, of Andersonville, was shot to death and Kermit O. Green, 53, of 
Ellaville, slashed in the face with a knife Saturday nightduring an apparent 
attack by five men who leaped from a wrecked car the officer and Green had 
been chasing. Green was reported in satisfactory condition at a local hospital.
Schley Counmty Sheriff W. M. Ellis said that James Hunter was charged with 
murder and a juvenile was being held in connection with the case.
Funeral services for Mr. Harden, 46, of Andersonville, were heldat 4 pm Monday 
in the Andersonville Methodist Church. The Rev. W. J. Stanford officiated and 
burial was in ANDERSONVILLE NATIONAL CEMETERY.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ophelia Mooney Harden of Andersonville; two 
daughters, Jorene Harden and Beth Harden of Andersonville; two sister, Mrs. 
Floyd Prescott and Mrs. Arthur Varnum, both of Americus, two brothers, Roy 
Harden and Bill Harden, both of Americus; mother, Mrs. Mattie Harden of 
Americus.
