DR. C.P. DAVIS, 72, DIES AT AMERICUS
Dr. Charles P. Davis, 72, Americus dentist who was a native of Ellaville and a 
member of a family long prominent in this section, died Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. 
after an extended illness.  Funeral services were conducted from the 
residence, 1121 South Lee street Wednesday afternoon with the Rev.O.L. Evans 
and the Rev. Mack Anthony officiating.  Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery 
there.  Born here May 14, 1868, Dr. Davis was the son of Henry S. Davis and 
Hennie Mae Hemphill Davis.  He was graduated in dentistry by Vanderbilt 
University in Nashville, Tenn., and began practice in Americus 50 years ago.  
A leader in his profession, he served as president of the Third District 
Dental Association besides other offices.  Survivors include his widow, the 
former Miss Amy Brooks of Americus; a daughter, Mrs. John H. Hoyt, Jr., 
Atlanta; a son, Lieut. Charles E. Davis, Fort Benning; two sisters, Mrs. Lilly 
Dixon, of Ellaville, and Mrs. W.M. Jones of Americus, besides several 
grandchildren and nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers were H.B. Williams, T.C. 
Tillman, Sr., Brown McLendon, J.C. Collins, Toy McGehee and Stewart Prather.
