                           CAPT. PERRY C. CLEGG DEAD
          One of Southwest Georgia's Great Developers Passes Away
Americus, Ga. Dec. 5-- Capt. Perry C. Clegg, one of the wealthiest and most
influential citizens of Americus died suddenly yesterday morning of apoplexy at
his plantation in Dooley County. The deceased was a native of Walton county, bur
for half a century has resided alternatively in Hawkinsville, Cordele and
Americus. Owning considerable business interests in Southwest Georgia, he was
largely instrumental in building the Savannah, Americus and Montgomery railroad,
now a portion of the Seaboard system, and was interested in every considerable
business enterprise affecting the development of this section. Besides owning
large landed and personal property, the deceased carried $60,000.00 life
insurance. He is survived by a wife, two sons and two daughters. The funeral
will be held in Americus Saturday.

                       MR. CLEGG'S DEATH WAS SUDDEN
     CORDELE, GA. Dec. 5---- Mr. P. C. Clegg died at 5 o'clock this morning of
apoplexy. Mr. Clegg was a prominent business man here for some years; identified
with the wholesale gracery business and more recently in the saw mill and cotton
business. He was a large and successful cotton planter and held valuable farms
in this county. He went to bed at his farm last night complaining slightly of
pain on the head. At 5 o'clock this morning he was found unconscious and lived
one hour, dying before medical attention could reach him. Mr. Clegg leaves a
wife and family of four grown children . His remains were taken to Americus today.
