Obituary for Laverne Carter

Lillie LaVerne A. Carter, 87, of Americus, died Friday, January 11, 2019 at Ma
Magnolia Manor Nursing Center. A native of Winter Garden, FL, she was born Se
September 2, 1931 to the late Wilbur and Lillie Kathryn Avant. In addition to he
her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, I.F. (Bud) Carter, and a so
son, Richard Douglas (Rick) Carter.

To honor Mrs. Carter's wishes, all services will be private and she will be in
interred beside her husband at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus.

Mrs. Carter and her husband moved to Americus in 1961 from Albany and operated
Carter Office Equipment Company. After her husband's passing in 1988, she co
continued the business until her retirement in 1992.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church where she attended as long as her
health would permit. In earlier years, she held various offices in her Sunday
School classes and taught Bible School for several years. She sang in Central's
Silvertone Choir and for three years was publisher of REFLECTIONS, which at
that time was a monthly newsletter for Central's senior members.

In her younger years, she was involved in and active with civic activities.
While a member of the Opti-Mrs. Club (Auxiliary to the Optimist Club), she
served as President and Vice President. She was Treasurer and chaired
committees in the Pilot Club, was a Charter Member, and held offices in the
Americus Business and Professional Women's Club, and was a Past President and Se
Secretary of the Americus Jaycettes (Auxiliary to the Americus Jaycees.)

Mrs. Carter was a former member of Anthony Homemakers' Club, served in various
capacities in the 3L Club and Garden Clubs. She was a supporter of the Boy's
Youth Homes, the Peace Officers Association, and was an Honorary Member of the
Georgia Sheriff's Association. Though unable to attend the meetings, she co
continued to hold her membership in the Southwest Georgia Genealogical Society, th
the W.O.W. Society, and the Plains Historic Preservation Trust.

Her favorite hobby was genealogy, though she also enjoyed painting pictures of
flowers and old country farm scenes. Her genealogical research had yielded many
interesting facts from the past concerning her family lines and those of her
husband and daughter-in-law, which she compiled into records and presented to ea
each respective family. She had traced some family lines back to the Colonial da
days of our country and some back to their native countries.

She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter-in-law, Joy Patrice Collins Ca
Carter; and three grandsons: Chad Carter, Harold Carter, and Brent Carter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to one's fav
favorite charity.

Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
