The Ellaville Sun Friday, Oct. 25, 1940 No. 19
GIRL, 9, KILLED IN AUTO CRASH
Nine-year-old Edna Brock of Putnam was instantly killed and five other members
of her family were painfully injured in an automobile accident in front of the
R.L. LeSuer residence on Ellaville-Americus highway Sunday afternoon about 3
o'clock. Newton Brock, 45-year-old lumberman and father of the child, said
the accident was caused by a dog leaping from the front seat to the floor of
the car. The automobile ran some distance along the side of the road, struck
a culvert and rammed into a tree. Mrs. Brock, 24, stepmother of the victim,
and Pearl Brock, 12, her sister, were seriously injured. Mr. Brock, Mae
Brock, 8, and Sam Brock, 7, were painfully hurt. All were reported improving
yesterday. Funeral services for Edna were conducted from Friendship Baptist
church in Sumter county Tuesday with the Rev. W.A. Joyner officiating.
