The last Will and Testament of David Houck, Decd
(No 470)
In the name of God, Amen - I David Houck of Carroll county in the State 
of Maryland, being weak in body, and of sound and disposing mind, memory 
and understanding, considering the certainty of death, and the 
uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly 
affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it 
shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and publish this my 
last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say - 
First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God, 
and my body to the earth to be recently buried at the discretion of my 
executors hereinafter named, and after my debts and funeral charges are 
paid. - I devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Sarah, all my real, 
personal and mixed estate of which I die seized and possessed of, during 
her natural life, and after her death I do hereby order will and direct 
my Executors or the survivors to sell and dispose of the same wither at 
public or private sale as they may deem most advantages to the best 
interest of my estate, and also to execute and acknowledge to the 
purchaser thereof a good and sufficient title for the same, or any part 
thereof, and in case there should be any property that my beloved wife 
should not want, or stand in need of, I will and direct my executors to 
sell and dispose of the same (by and with the consent of my beloved 
wife) either at public or private sale, excepting the House and Lot 
whereon I now reside, situated in the town of Manchester on the corner 
of Baltimore and Westminster Street - also one other lot of ground 
fronting no the York road continuing about one acre, three roods and 
nine square perches of land more or less - as conveyed to me by a 
certain Joshua F. Kopp. -
  Item, I give, devise and bequeath unto Catharine Cramer (wife of 
Solomon Cramer) her heirs and assigns forever, a certain lot of ground 
containing one acre, two roods and eighteen square perches of land more 
or less -(and distinguished as Lot No 5 in a division of the real estate 
of Joseph Kopp decd.) by paying the interest on one Hundred and forty 
one Dollars annually, during the natural life of my beloved wife, for 
the benefit of my estate - I also will and direct that after my death, 
the sum of one hundred Dollars by put out on interest by my Executors, 
and that the interest be applied to the spread of the Gospel among the 
Heathens during the natural life of my beloved wife, and after her death 
that the principal together with all the proceeds of my real, personal 
and mixed estate (not heretofore bequeathed) be equally divided among 
the following named heirs and Levi Maafield - Samuel Prices children - 
William Campbell (son of Jacob Campbell) - Eliza Albaugh (daughter of 
Zachariah Albaugh) - Sarah Fisher (daughter of Geo. Fisher decd. - 
Melinday Wolf (wife of Conrad Wolf) - widow Kesler's heirs - George 
Houck's heirs - Jacob Houck's heirs - John Turner's heirs, Solomon 
Cramer's heirs - and William Grammer (an adopted son of Simon Grammer) 
to be equally divided among the aforesaid heirs, who may be living at 
the decease of my beloved wife - to each one share and share alike - I 
also will, direct and request that my Executors provide well for the 
comfortable support of my beloved wife, furnishing her with all things 
necessary to render her comfortable during her natural life. -
  And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint Jacob Campbell, John 
Houck and Henry Houck (sons of Jacob Houck decd.) to be Executors of 
this my last Will and testament hereby revoking and annulling all former 
wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and non other 
to be my last Will and Testament - In testimony whereof I have hereunto 
set my hand and affixed my seal on this fourth day of July in the year 
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us, 
who at his request, in his presence, and in the presence of each other 
have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto -

    Maryland Carroll County To wit:
  On the 23rd day of October 1854, before the Orphans' Court for Carroll 
County, came Jacob Campbell, the person who exhibited the aforegoing 
instrument of writing, and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty 
God, that the same is the true, whole, and last Will and testament of 
David Houck, late of Carroll County deceased: That the same came to his 
hands and possession by being delivered to him, since testating death, 
by James Kelly, to whom Testator had given it for safekeeping: and that 
he does not know of any other will, or codicil, left by said deceased -

  Maryland, Carroll County To wit: On the 23rd day of October, 1854, 
before the Orphans' Court for Carroll County, came Jacob W. Boring, and 
George Trump, two of the subscribing witnesses to the aforegoing last 
Will and Testament of David Houck, late of Carroll county deceased, and 
in open Court, solemnly sincerely and truly declared and affirmed that 
they did see David Houck, the Testator in said will named, sign and seal 
said will: That they heard him publish, pronounce and declare the same 
to be his last will and Testament: That, at the time of so doing, he, 
the said David Houck, was, to the best of their apprehensions, knowledge 
and belief, of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and 
that they, together with James Kelly, the other subscribing witness to 
said will, subscribed their respective names, as witnesses thereto, at 
the request of the said Testator, in his presence, and in the presence 
of each other. -
