Hinds County Gazette 1878

W. Calvin Wells, Esq., places on
our table a copy of the Gazette of
Aug.13, 1847  a paper 31 years old.-
The most attractive local publication
in the paper, is the list of announcements
for office for the election of November,
1847.  James Dupree is announced 
as a candidate for the State
Senate; H.G. Johnston, D.M. Dancy,
T.J. Catchings and Dr. Robert White,
are announced as candidates for the
legislature; H. M. White, Amos R. 
Johnston, and A.L. Dabney, for 
Probate Judge; B.G. Bankston, J.W.
Dougherty and W. Hampton, for
Probate Clerk; J.L. McManus and
Andrew R. Johnson, for Circuit Clerk;
R.N. Downing, for Sheriff; C. Penn,
A. Patrick, and E.H. Watson, for
Treasurer; T.C. Chapman, Philip
Muldoon, R.W.T. Daniels and A.J.
Chapman, for Assessor; and Joshua
Stone and H.A. McNamar, for 
Surveyor.  Of all this formidable list, the 
following gentlemen were elected:-
H.G. Johnston, T.J. Catchings, Robt.
White, Amos R. Johnston, W.H.
Hampton, J.L. McManus, R.N.Downing, 
E.H. Watson, A.J. Chapman,
and Joshua Stone.
