AN APPEAL TO COUNTY CITIZENS

Veterans to Fall in Line at Depot and Ride
to Court House Under Command of Col.
W.A. Montgomery, Marshal of the Day.
               _____________

Next Wednesday , April 29th,
is the day fixed for the unveiling
of the Confederate monument
here.
The people of Raymond are
organized for the great work of
entertaining the large crowds of
visitors that will be here on the
occasion. But they should not
be left to do it all, for it is a
county affair. We call upon our
country friends to come to our
aid that day with well filled
baskets.
All veterans are expected to
gather at the depot preparatory
to marching in a body to the
court house. It is desirable that
such as can should come on horse
back and ride up in double
column under command of the
marshal of the day, Col. W.A.
Montgomery.
       _______________

ADDRESSES.

Hon. Chas. Scott, of Rosedale,
former candidate for governor,
and one of the foremost lawyers
and planters in the south, himself
an old Hinds County Veteran,
will deliver the principal address
Wednesday. Mr. Scott's acceptance
has been received by the
committee on arrangements.
The Jackson Board of Trade
band has been engaged for the
occasion, and a delegation of
several hundred citizens of Jackson,
chiefly members of the various
Confederate organizations,
will attend the dedicatory exercises
Wednesday.
Among the prominent visitors
who will be in attendance are
Maj-Gen. Rob. Lowry, commander
of the Mississippi division,
United Confederate Veterans,
Mrs. Daisy McLaurin Stevens,
president of the state chapter,
United Daughters of the
Confederacy, and Mrs. Helen Belle
McClurg, of Greenwood, former
president of the state chapter,
the latter having been very
active in securing the donation
from the board of supervisors
with which the memorial shaft
was erected.

Hinds County Confederate Monument (Raymond,MS)
Columbus, Miss,
April 18, 1908.

President N. B. Forrest Chapter, U.D.C.

My Dear Mrs. President:
I write to acknowledge
receipt of your kind invitation to
be present at the unveiling of
the Hinds County Confederate
monument, April 29th. I
congratulate your chapter on its
success in securing the monument
completed and ready to
be unveiled. The tender
memories of the heroic days of the
sixties would soon be lost, only
for the patriotism of Southern
women.
I regret I will not be able to
be present at the ceremonies.
With kind wishes,

Sincerely and fraternally yours
Stephen D. Lee.
