West-Jersey pioneer. (Bridgeton, N.J.) 1851-1884: March 27, 1858
Death of Rev. J. M. Edmunds.
No news which has reached us within the past week, has been more startling than the
announcement in the Ledger of Wednesday, of the death of the Rev. Mr. Edmunds of
Cape May county. He was a young man of more than ordinary talents, active,
energetic, and influential. For several months he has been assiduously laboring as a
missionary along the shores of South Jersey. On Thursday of last week he joined in
the holy bonds of matrimony, a highly intelligent lady, the daughter of the Rev. Mr.
Works, of Pottstown, Pa. Now he has left this world, the pleasures, the profits, and
the trials of which be had but just entered upon, and taken his flight to that
mansion above, prepared for him from the foundation of the world. The church, the
Presbytery to which he belongs, his friends and relatives, and particularly she who
but recently committed her heart and hand to his keeping, have met with an
irreparable loss. How mysterious are the providences of the Almighty!
