Died at Newport, on Sunday, Sept. 30, 1855, Mrs. Jane W., wife of John Compton,
after a lingering illness of five months. She was in all respects a lovely and
interesting woman, attractive in her personal appearance, affable in her manners,
arniable in her disposition, warm in her affections and consistent and devoted as a
Christian On Tuesday, her remains were taken to the M. E. Church, where appropriate
religious services were held, in the presence of a large and deeply affected
audience; after which she was committed to the silent grave, to await the morning of
the resurrection.
Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.
