All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Betty-Lu Burton bigburma@juno.com December 11, 2006, 6:26 pm Quaker Northern District Philadelphia Monthly Meeting Quaker Marriage Records FHL# 20473 Northern District, Philadelphia, PA Dillaplain Ridgway and Hannah Colton (Delaplain Ridgeway and Hannah Coulton) 31day 1mo 1797 (31 Jan 1797) Whereas Dillaplain Ridgway of the City of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania Bricklayer Son of John Ridgway and Postreme his Wife of Mount Holly in the County of Burlington in New Jersey, and Hannah Colton, Daughter of Joseph Colton and Mary his Wife late of Blockley Township in the County of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania deceased, having declared their intentions of Marriage with each other before several Monthly Meetings of the People called Quakers at Philadelphia for the Northern District, according to the good order used amongst them; and having consent of Parents and Friends concerned, their said Proposals were allowed of by the said Meeting. Now these are to Certify whom it may concern, that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this thirty first day of the first Month in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and ninety seven, they the said Dillaplain Ridgway and Hannah Colton appeared in a publick Meeting of the said People held in their North Meeting House at Philadelphia aforesaid, and the said Dillaplain Ridgway, taking the said Hannah Colton by the Hand, did in a Solemn manner openly declare that he took her the said Hannah Colton to be his Wife promising, through Divine assistance, to be unto her a loving and faithful Husband until death should separate them and then in the same assembly the said Hannah Colton did in like manner declare that she took him the said Dillaplain Ridgway to be her Husband, promising through Divine assistance to be unto him a loving and faithful Wife until death should separate them. And Moreover they the said Dillaplain Ridgway and Hannah Colton, she according to the custom of Marriage assuming the name of her Husband as a further confirmation there of did then and there to these presents set their Hands.
