West-Jersey pioneer. (Bridgeton, N.J.) 1851-1884: 21 July 1855
Died on Saturday, July 14th, at his residence in Bridgeton, Dr. Ephraim Buck. The
deceased was born Feb. 23d, 1795, and was blessed, during the season of his youth
with the example and counsels of a pious mother. Devotiong himself to the Medical
Profession, he attended lectures at the Pennsylvania University, and commenced
practice in this place.
In 1829 he removed his family to Philadelphia, where he continued for 11 years,
attending to the duties of his profession. In 1843, he returned to Bridgeton, where
he has since resided, living a life of usefulness, and occupying an influential
position in society.
Dr. Buck was a skillful Physician, a public spirited citizen, a kind father, and a
consistent christian. He was foremost in every enterprise of public utility, he
exerted himself with great zeal to promote the cause of Temperance, and his efforts
in behalf of that cause will not soon be for gotten by those who have the present
and future welfare of men at heart. He was also for many years, an active member of
the Cumberland County Bible Society; and by the faithful discharge of his duties,
and the preparation of several annual reports for that Society, he did much to
promote its interests.
His loss will be deeply felt by his family, by the Church and by the community at
large; but he leaves to those who are thus bereaved, the consolation of believing
that his pilgrimage is ended in that rest, which remaineth to the people of God.
