Tucked into the Bible immediately after this is a small piece of paper. On one
side there is simply the name Lucinda Woodruff. On the other side, there is
written:
This certifies that Lucinda Woodruff learns very finely at school and for
her good behavior merits my approbation.

May 8th, 1829
Sophia Whitehead

On the inside back cover of the Bible, written in faint pencil:
Mary B. Kellum ) daughters of Jesse II, Bradford Co., PA
      Ruth L. Woodruff )
      May 20th Lewissla?? Loukisela? 1841*

Thomas M. Woodruff --- son of Jesse II, Bradford Co., PA
Lorenz, (Leroy, or Jerry) Woodruff -- probably Jesse's other son. Need to verify
                   name.
      Louisska? Lavender? May 20th 1841*

I don't know what that name would be and don't see any significance to that date.

A few facts of interest:

Jesse II left Bridgeton before 1812 and settled in Towanda, Bradford Co., PA.
Louvisa died in 1820, leaving the Bible to Jesse. Thomas and David died in 1824
and 1829, yet all were recorded in the Bible, probably in Jesse's possession.
Jesse died at the home of his granddaughter and family in Battlecreek, MI, and
even his death is recorded in the Bible.
The Bible was probably found in an antique store in Michigan by an unrelated
party. It came into my possession through wills I had transcribed and submitted
to the Cumberland County Genealogical Society several years ago; namely the will
for Louvisa Woodruff leaving her large Bible to my son, Jesse.

Apparently, the family kept in touch over the years after Louvisa died, which
wasn't easy in that day and age. Wouldn't it be great now, if some letters
turned up!
