Cape May Ocean Wave, Wednesday, December 23, 1868

DIED.
TOWNSEND.-Departed this life, near Cold Spring Dec. 5th., Mrs. Abigail
Townsend, Sr., in the 83rd year of her age.
She was long and favorably known as a resident of the Lower Township, and
had lived to see most of her former associates pass away. She had also been a
consistent member of the Methodist church, at the Tabernacle, fifty-eight
years, having joined three years after the church was built.
She suffered greatly in the lat few months of her life, but repeatedly
assured her friends that she was not afraid to die-that Christ had given her
the victory, and that all was well.
Her funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Mr. Ballard, from a text which she
had selected long before. Psalms 27th 4th. "One thing have I desired of the
Lord, that will I seek after, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all
the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his
temple.: S.T.
