Comrade Stocker's Last Call
Answers the Great Summons and Passes to the Eternal Camping Grounds

Another old soldier answers to the last roll call. This time it is Comrade
Cyrus S. Stocker of the 116th Ohio; a brave soldier and a christian gentleman.
His death occurred at his farm home south east of this city last Saturday, and
his funeral was held at Centenary U.B. church, Monday at 11 a.m. Cyrus Stocker
was the son of Solomon Stocker and was born March 31, 1835. He was therefore in
his 70th year when he died. On the 10th day of September 1857, he was united in
marriage with Margaret Lock, and to them were born seven children, five of whom
survive. Of these George and Mrs. Rosa King live in Iowa, Mrs. Louisa Davis,
Harry and Mrs. Maggie John reside near the old home. Comrade Stocker enlisted in
the 116th O.V.I. and faithfully endured his full share of the privations and
dangers incident to a bloody war. Thirty three years ago he became a member of
the Centenary U.B. church and from that hour to his death he was faithful to
every duty imposed upon him. For years in fact, he had been regarded as one of
the pillars of the society. His pastor, Rev. M. L. Oliver preached an impressive
funeral sermon declaring that the life of the deceased had been its own most
eloquent funeral discourse. It was a beautifully life in its influence,
beautiful in submissive willingness and ability to advance the kingdom of Christ
in the hearts of his friends and neighbors. Under a picture of him is his full
name: Cyrus Sylvester Stocker
