Coshocton Tribune

Jacob Gross, 80, Civil War veteran died Monday morning early, at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Linnie Lane at the Globe Hotel, this city. The immediate cause of
his death was hardening of the arteries. He was a member of Co. E. 51st Ohio,
and aside from the daughter with whom he had been making his home, is survived
by the following children; Mrs. Bessie Fougedy and R. M. Gross of Akron, Mrs.
Daniel Kees of Bernice, Mrs. Callie Brown of Newcomerstown, and Sheldon M. Gross
of north of town. He was married in 1868 to Elvira Johns who died in 1884.
Funeral services will be held at Globe Hotel today at 1pm after which interment
will be had at Bethel.  Thursday 29th paper; Funeral services were held
Wednesday afternoon at the Globe Hotel building in Newcomerstown for Jacob
Gross, aged 80, veteran of the Civil War, who died Monday. The Rev. W. L. Heuser
officiated. Burial made at Bethel cemetery with the Sons of Veterans of that
village in charge. Mr. Gross had been bedfast for several months with hardening
of the arteries. He was born in Zoar, August 24, 1841, and while quite young
moved to the vicinity of Newcomerstown with his parents, where he spent his
entire life.
