Body of Woman Found in Stream; Heart Attack Ruled Cause of Death
Mrs. Grace Gadd Carr, 69, Newark, was found dead Monday afternoon in a small
stream near Hanover. Acting coroner George Gressle, Licking country ruled
following an autopsy Tuesday morning that Mrs. Carr died as the result of a
heart attack. The body was discovered about 1:30 pm by two men who were
passing along the highway in an automobile. The investigation revealed that
Mrs. Carr was walking along the expressway at Newark earlier and was picked up
by a woman driver. She got out at Hanover, where she reported that she was to
meet a friend. She apparently was walking along the stream bank south of the
bridge at Hanover when she fell into the water. Mrs. Carr's wrist watch had
stopped at 10 am the investigation revealed. Mrs. Carr was born in
Newcomerstown Dec 18, 1892, a daughter of Frank and Mary Johns Gadd. She was
married to Charles Carr, who died in 1948. She was a member of the College
St. Methodist church in Newcomerstown, where she spent her entire life until
one year ago when she went to Newark to make her home with her daughter, Mrs.
George Callentine, 74 Granville St. Newark. Besides the daughter, she leaves
one son, James W. Carr of West Lafayette; nine grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 pm at the Bonnell
funeral home in West Lafayette. Internment will be in the East State St.
cemetery at Newcomerstown.
