John Bull

The record of his last will and testament, September 20th, 1824.
In the name of God Amen, I John Bull of the Town of Coeymans in the County of
Albany and state of New York being in perfect health of body and of perfect mind
and memory, thanks be given unto God.  Calling unto mind the mortality of my body
and knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die, do make and ordain this
my last will and testament, that it to say, principally and first of all I give
and recommend my soul unto the hand of almighty God that gave it and my body.  I
recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion
of my executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive
the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate
wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise and dispose
of the same in the following manner and forms.  First I order and direct that my
funeral expenses and my honest debts be first paid out of my estate by my
executors.  I will to my wife Elizabeth Bull one cow and one feather bed that I
may die possessed of and bedding also to have and to hold during her natural life.
 Farther I order and direct my sons Ephraim Bull and John Bull and Stuart Bull to
support my wife Elizabeth Bull at my dwelling house in Coeymans Town with a good
competent portion of meat and drink and wearing apparel and all other necessaries
both in sickness and health during her remaining my widow this to be understood to
be in full of her dower right.  I will to my daughter Mary Bull now Mary Mott
twenty five dollars.  I will to my daughter Elizabeth Bull the best feather bed
and bedding that I may die possessed of and also one hundred and fifty dollars
money of account of the United States of America.  I will to my son Henry Bull
five dollars New York currency.  I will to Edwin Stuart five dollars New York
currency.  I will to my three sons Ephraim Bull, John Bull Junior, and Stuart Bull
all my farm of land lying and being in the Town of Coeymans to be divided equally
between the said Ephraim Bull, John Bull Junior and Stuart Bull, that is to say,
each one is to have one third of said farm according to the value of the whole, 
the farm is not to be sold nor divided until my son Stuart Bull shall come to the
age of twenty-one years, the legal fees to be paid out of my estate, by my sons
Ephraim Bull, John Bull Junior, and Stuart Bull at the time my

son Stuart Bull shall be twenty one years of age for the confirmation of the said
land so willed to the said Ephraim Bull, John Bull, Junior, and Stuart Bull.  I
will that all my personal estate except what is otherwise disposed of, my stocks
of cattle of all kinds, with my household furniture, and all the rest of the
personal estate to be for the benefit of John Bull Junior, Elizabeth Bull, and
Stuart Bull after my debts and other expenses are paid out of the personal estate.
  I appoint my beloved son Ephraim Bull and my neighbor and friend Henry Gage be
and they are hereby appointed the lawful executors of this my last will and
testament that they be the above executors have the care and charge of my personal
estate so that it be prudently managed for the comfort of my three children namely
John Bull Junior, Elizabeth Bull, and Stuart Bull.  And I do hereby utterly
disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testament, wills,
legacies, bequeaths, and executors by me in any wise before named willed and
bequeathed ratified and confirmed this and no other to be my last will and
testament. - turn over -

In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this seventh day of August in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine, signed sealed and published,
pronounced and declared by the said John Bull as his last will and testament in
the presence of each other have hereto subscribed our names J. B.  The word Bull
interlined between the twentieth and twenty-fifth lines from the top   [signed]

State of New York
Albany County.  Be it remembered that on the twentieth day of September in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-four personally appeared
before me, T. Attwood Bridgens surrogate of the County of Albany aforesaid Abraham
D. Schermerhorn, one of the subscribing witnesses to the will of  John Bull, late
of the Town of Coeymans in the said county deceased, who being dully sworn and
declared, that he did see the said John Bull deceased, seal and execute the
instrument here unto annexed and impressed with the seal of office of the said
surrogate which said instrument pinpoints to be the last will and testament of the
said John Bull deceased, bearing date the seventh day of August in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine  that he heard him the said John Bull
publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament, that at the
time thereof he the said John Bull was of sound disposing mind and memory to the
best knowledge and belief of him the said Abraham D. Schermerhorn and that he
together with Lanah Schermerhorn and David Lester the other witnesses to the said
will, did severally subscribe their names thereto as witnesses in the presence of
the testator and of each other.  
  In testimony whereof the said surrogate hath hereunto set his hand and affixed
his seal of office.  Done at the city of Albany this twentieth day of September in
the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-four.

Albany County.  Be it also remembered that on the twentieth day of September of
the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-four, personally
appeared before me the said surrogate Henry Gage one of the executors in the
aforesaid will named and was duly sworn to the faithful performance and executing
thereof by taking the usual oath in that case provided.

(Letters Testamentary)

  The People of the State of New York, by the Grace of God, Free and Independent,
To all to whom these presents shall come or may concern, Send Greeting; Know Ye,
that at the City of Albany, in the County of Albany, on the twentieth day of
September of the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-four,
before T Attwood Bridgens Esquire, Surrogate of our said County, the last will and
testament of John Bull deceased (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed) was proved
and is now approving and allowed of by us; and the said deceased having whilst he
lived and at the time of his death goods, chattels or credits within this State
by, medus whereof this proving and registering the said will, and granting
administration of all and singular the said goods, chattels and credits, and also
the auditing allowing and final discharging the account thereof doth being unto
us; The Administration of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the
said deceased and any way concerning his will, is granted unto Henry Gage one of
the Executors in the said will named, he being first duly sworn well and
faithfully to administer the same and to make and exhibit a true and perfect
inventory of all and singular the said goods, chattel and credits, and also to
render a just and true accordant thereof when thereunto required. 
  In testimony whereof we have caused the seal of office of our said Surrogate to
be hereunto affixed. Witness T. Attwood Bridgens Esquire, Surrogate of the said
County at the City of Albany aforesaid, the twentieth day of September of the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-four, and of our independence
the forty ninth.
