Bakerian, A. Alice         
AMSTERDAM A. Alice Bakerian, 86, formerly of Troy and Albany, died Saturday,
September 4, 2004 at Mount Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam after a brief
illness. Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Bagdasar Bakerian and
Lucy (Dasho) Bakerian. She had resided in the Troy and Albany areas most of
her life and was educated at Troy Public Schools 17 and 14, Troy High School
and Russell Sage College, Class of 1939. Miss Bakerian was a social worker
under Commissioner Douglas Hudson for eight years and later worked at New York
State Motor Vehicles, the Lottery Commission, New York State Department of
Taxation and Finance as well the Albany Board of Elections and owned and
operated the Alice Shop in Albany in the 50s to the 70s. She was also
comptroller and manager of an Albany landmark hotel. In later years, she
resided in Albany and was active in Democratic Party functions and was a
longtime supporter of former Mayors Corning, Whalen and current Mayor
Jennings. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in
Watervliet. She is survived by a sister, Beatrice Johnson of New York City,
several cousins in Maine and Mass. and several nieces and nephews in Troy,
Albany and Calif. She was predeceased by three brothers, Antranick, Haig and
Leo Bakerian and a nephew, Kevin Allen Johnson. Funeral service will be held
Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276
Pawling Avenue, Troy with Rev. Stepanos Doudoukjian, pastor of St. Peter
Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet, officiating. Relatives and friends
may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to
the service. Interment, Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made in memory of Miss Bakerian to St. Peter Armenian
