Cohen, Martha         
ALBANY Martha Cohen, 82, passed away on Monday evening, September 27, 2004
after a long illness at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. Martha (Mollie
Lerner) was born in Havana, Cuba. She was educated, lived, worked and raised
her family in the Bronx. She moved to the Capital Region in 1968 after a
decade that she truly loved in Middletown, N.Y. She retired from NYS OGS. She
enjoyed her retirement in Schenectady as an active participant and volunteer
for the Senior Adult Program at the Schenectady Jewish Community Center and
the Niskayuna Senior Center. She was acknowledged by the Schenectady County
Office for the Aging for her volunteerism. Martha was a member of Congregation
Gates of Heaven and loved being with her family. She was the widow of Harry
Cohen and preceded in death by her son, Larry Cohen and brother, Seymour
Lerner. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Yvette and Alan Gebell
of Niskayuna, N.Y.; her daughter-in-law, Paula Cohen Rosenblat; brother, Ben
Lerner of Sunrise, Fla.; grandchildren, Meredith Gebell of Schenectady, Elaine
Gebell of Rockville, Md., Heath Cohen of Patchogue, N.Y., Kim Cohen of
Rotterdam and Michael Cohen of Watervliet, N.Y. Services at the Beth El
Cemetery Oradell, N.J. on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. The
family will receive visitors Saturday night and Sunday at the home of Yvette
and Alan Gebell in Niskayuna, N.Y. To honor her memory, donations may be made
to a charity of your choosing. Suggestions include: Congregation Gates of
Heaven, Schenectady, the Schenectady Jewish Community Center and Senior Adult
Services of Catholic Charities of Schenectady County.
