Final Rites for Billy Bentley held Tuesday
 
Billy Bentley, 68, of Yatesville Rd., died Monday
morning, December 31, in Upson County hospital.

Mr. Bentley was a native of Upson County and was a
descendent of several Upson County pioneer families.


A farmer most of his life, he also served as
Veterans Service Officer for the Thomaston area 19
years, retiring in 1974.  He was a past member of
the Upson County Board of Education, a member and
past Commander of American Legion Pete Thurston
Post.  He was also a member of VFW. And Farm Bureau
of which he was a past director.

In World War 11, he served three years with the 81st
Army Wildcat Division and was awarded two Purple
Hearts and the Bronze star for heroic action in the
South Pacific Peliliu Campaign.  He received the
Combat Medical Badge for long hours under fire in
that campaign.

Mr. Bentley was a member of the Service Class at
First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Willie Williams
Bentley of Thomaston, a son, Danny Bentely,
Thomaston, two sisters:  Mrs. Louise Buchanan,
Manchester, and Mrs. Emma Laura Prance, Marietta,
one brother, Jack Bentley, Thomaston, and one
grandson, Matthew Bentley and two granddaughters,
Katie and Jeanna Bentley of Thomaston.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 11:00
in the Chapel of Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home.  Dr.
Harold Smith officiated, assisted by Rev. Scott
Kirby.  Burial was in the Trice Cemetery.
