ISAAC L. GOSS, Paintersville, Mifflin county, Pa., was born in West Beaver
township, Snyder county, Pa., September 6, 1857, son of Jacob and Maria Goss.
Isaac L. Goss lived at his birthplace until he was sixteen years old; then his
parents removed to Mifflin county in 1873, and settled in Decatur township,
where they remained the rest of their lives. Isaac Goss attended the district
schools of his native township, and the schools of Decatur township for two
terms. He remained with his parents until he was twenty-two years old, working
on the farm. He was then engaged to haul lumber for Mr. Frank Sellers, of
Monroe county. Mr. Goss' only capital was less than $100, and one horse; yet by
industry and good management he increased it many fold. One year he cut three
hundred thousand feet of lumber, but for the next six months he was ill. In
1883 he purchased the tract of land that is now his farm; he has greatly
improved it, and has built a comfortable home and the largest barn in the
township. Mr. Goss and his brother Howard constitute the firm of W. H. & I. L.
Goss, manufacturers of building lumber. He also has interests in timber lands.
Mr. Goss is a Republican, and takes an active interest in politics. He was
elected school director in 1896.
Isaac L. Goss was married April 27, 1879, to Rebecca, daughter of Robert and
Sarah Kemberling.  Their children are:  James Adam; Sadie Maria; Earl Woodford;
Jacob Howard; Hettie Sophia; Sherman Harrison; and Bessie May.
Robert Kemberling, the father of Mrs. Goss, served in the late war and was
honorably discharged; he died of consumption soon after his return home. Mrs.
Kemberling is also dead. Their children are: Priscilla (Mrs. Charles
Mackelhoe); Emma (Mrs. Adam Goss); Lizzie (Mrs. William Sterringer); Allen, who
married Miss Gemberling, of Selinsgrove, Snyder county; John, married to Agnes
Wagner, of Decatur township; Rebecca (Mrs. Isaac Goss). Mr. And Mrs. Goss are
members of the Reformed church.
