ABRAHAM BENJAMIN GARVER, deceased, of Kishacoquillas, Mifflin county, Pa., son of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Rudy) Garver, was born on the homestead in Union township, Mifflin county, April 2, 1846; He died March 9, 1897. Abraham B. Garver attended the district schools of his native township and completed his education at the Kishacoquillas Seminary; he remained at home working with his father on the farm until he was seventeen. He enlisted at Philadelphia, Pa., in a cavalry regiment, under Captain Brown, of that city, served until the close of the war and was mustered out at Philadelphia. After two years passed at his home in Mifflin county, he spent two years in different parts of California. Returning to the east, he farmed for a short time, studying during the winter. He taught at McVeytown and at Reedsville, Union township, and afterwards turned his attention to mercantile pursuits, forming a partnership with his brother, John R., under the firm name of J. R. Garver & Bro. For six years the firm carried on a thriving business. In April, 1889, Mr. Abraham Garver bought the property of the Kishacoquillas Seminary and opened a general store; he was very successful, his business constantly increasing. Mr. Garver was a Republican; he was also a member of the G.A.R. Post at Belleville; and Lodge No. 203, F. and A. M., at Lewistown, Pa. Abraham Benjamin Garver was married, January 22, 1878, to Clara M., daughter of Harrison H. and Elizabeth (Webb) Gibboney. They had two children: Robert Taylor, born May 28, 1879; and Rush H., born February 17, 1881. Mr. Garver, with his family, was a member of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Garver's parents have seven children: Annie (Mrs. O.D. Frey), of Reedsville; Clara M. (Mrs. A. B. Garver); Rush, married Alice McNitt, has two children; Thomas F., married Ida Dellett, of Milroy, Pa., has four children; Willa (Mrs. Charles McLaughlin), Washington, D.C., has one child; Cora J.; and Vernon.
