  Lawrence Francis Wike

  Fatally Hurt Falls On Fork

When he fell on a pitchfork, as he was coming down the ladder from the haymow,
in the barn at his home near Enon Valley Saturday evening about 5:30 o'clock,
Lawrence Francis Wike, aged 18 years, was fatally injured, although it was not
realized at the time. He was coming down the ladder rapidly and fell on the
pitchfork, which was leaning against a wall near the ladder, when he missed his
footing on the ladder. The prongs of the pitchfork penetrated the lower part
of his body. He succeeded in getting up and pulling the fork from his body and
then walked to the house, a short distance away. A physician was called at
once, who found him in an apparently good condition, considering his injury.
His condition becoming much worse Sunday as a result of the loss of blood and
complications that developed, ha was removed to the Shenango Valley
hospital, in this city last evening, being in a dying condition, when he
arrived at that institution. He died within an hour after arriving there.
His parents and a number of other relatives survive. The body will be removed
to the family home some time today from the White & Son morgue, where it was
removed following his death. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Francis Wike, five sisters, Hazel, Anna, Helen, Florence and Erva and three
brothers, Francis and William and Wilmer, the latter being twins. Funeral
services will be held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in Bethel U. P.
church, North Beaver township. Interment will be made in Bethel church cemetery.
