New Castle News, December 31, 1928
Mrs. Margaret J. Marshall, aged 85 years, widow of
John Marshall, passed away Saturday evening at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. A. P. Hazen of Frisco, near Ellwood City,
following a brief illness of ten days of the infirmities of
age.

Mrs. Marshall was born and raised on the farm on what
is now the Fourth ward of Ellwood City. Her parents were
Abraham and Elizabeth Smith Cole, pioneer residents of that
community. Mr. and Mrs. Cole were united in marriage,
February 21, 1828 and were the parents of seven children,
Mrs. Marshall being the last of the family.

When a young woman, Mrs. Marshall united with the
Slippery Rock Presbyterian church. Of later years she had
been a faithful member of the Wampum Presbyterian church
where she took a deep interest in all of the church
activities and missionary work. She was one of the best
known and highly esteemed women of the community where she
had lived for many years.

On September 16, 1862, she was married to John Marshall
who preceded her in death in February, 1922. To this union
four children were born, two of whom are living, Mrs.
Margaret Hazen of Ellwood and David M. Marshall of the
Marshall Undertaking company at Wampum. She also leaves one
niece, Mrs. Sue McCowan of Carnegie and a nephew, W. H. Cole
of Ellwood City, six grand children and fourteen great grand
children.

The body has been removed to the home of her son, David
M. Marshall at Wampum, where it will remain until Tuesday
afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted from the
Wampum Presbyterian church, Tuesday, January 1 at 2 p.m.
Burial will be made in Oak Park Cemetery.
