Price sharimprice@softhome.net January 25, 2024, 12:15 pm New Castle News, (PA), 07-07-2001 Former New Castle businesswoman Margaret Melissa Chappell, 93, died the morning of July 6, 2001, in Heritage Oaks Home, Lubbock, Texas. Born Oct. 1, 1907 in Hillsville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph William and Minnie E. Cearfoss McCreary. She married Robert F. Chappell on Nov. 27, 1930. He died on May 5, 1990. Mrs. Chappell, formerly of Edgewood Avenue, had owned and operated Chappell's Sunday School and Church Store and Melissa's Craft Store, both in New Castle. A charter member of Gideons Auxillary, she was vice president and state president. She belonged to the City Rescue Mission Auxillary, Women's Christian Temperance Union's Francis Willard chapter and the American Association of Retired Persons. Mrs. Chappell was a member of First Alliance Church and its Cecelia Lewis Bible Class. Survivors include a daughter, E. Jean Hicks of Mobile, Ala: two grandchildren: and two great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert McCreary, Joseph McCreary, Cecil McCreary and James McCreary: and three sisters, Ruth Williams, Minnie Johnson and Dorothy Wheale. Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the R. Cuningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road. A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Roger Wayne Hicks, Mrs. Chappell's son-in-law, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
