Joseph C. (Calvin) McCreary, son of Joseph and Nancy White 
McCreary of Hillsville, well known millman and highly 
esteemed resident of the Northside, died at his home, 1404 
Millicent avenue, Monday morning at 1:25 o'clock, says the 
Youngtown Vindicator. Mr. McCreary was a foreman in the 
Republic Iron & Steel company, Haselton furnace, and was 
born in Hillsville, Pa., Novemeber 18, 1849, the son of 
Joseph and Nancy White McCreary.  He spent most of his life 
in Edenburg, Pa., coming to Youngstown 14 years ago.  In 
1870 he was married to Miss Lois A. Ripple, who survives 
with two sons, George W. and Frank, both at home. Deceased 
was a member of the Western Star, Lodge No. 21, F. and A. 
M.:  Youngstown Chapter R. A. M., and the P. H. C.  During 
his residence in this city he belonged to the Second U. P. 
Church. Funeral services will be held from the residence 
Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with interment in the 
Belmont Park cemetery. Mr. McCreary was one of the most 
skilled brick layers in this section, and is said to have 
been an authority on the quality of brick.  He had been 
engaged in work at nearly all of the furnaces of this city, 
and was widely known. In addition to his wife and two sons, 
he is survived by a brother, James, who resides near New 
Bedford, and by two sisters, Mrs. Ann McFate of Youngstown, 
and Mrs. Al Davis of Warren, PA.  He was a member of the 
Second U. P. church of Youngstown.
