Murt A. McCreary, former well known resident of Hillsville 
and superintendent of the Union Bridge Limestone Co. of 
Maryland, died at his home in Union Bridge, Wednesday, 
Novemeber 14, after an illness of two months due to 
complications. Mr. McCreary was 49 years of age.  The son of 
Julia Boyle McCreary and Ransom McCreary of Hillsville, he 
was born in Hillsville, August 14, 1874 and had spent his 
life there until about three years ago when he left to make 
his home in Maryland.  He was a member of Marietta Lodge, 
Knights of Pythias of Mt. Jackson and of the Methodist 
church of Hillsville. Besides his father, Ransom McCreary of 
Hillsville, he leaves his widow and three daughters, Miss 
Edythe McCreary, Mrs. Howard Bond and Mrs. Lawrence Miller, 
one granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. Fred McBride and one 
brother Hugh McCreary of Hillsville.  His mother preceded 
him in death about one year ago. Funeral services will be 
conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his father's 
home in Hillsville, in charge of Rev. Scott of the Methodist 
church.  Burial will be made in the Hillsville cemetery.
