In the name of God Amen.  I, Thomas B Sheffield of the town of Jasper in the 
County of Steuben and State of New York of the age of sixty years and being of 
sound mind and memory, do make publish and declare this my last will and 
testament in manner following that is to say.  

First, I give and bequeath to my wife Mary Sheffield, and to my daughters 
Charlotte Sheffield, Mary Sheffield and Viola Sheffield my homestead
consisting of Eighty acres of land, during the life of my said wife, and
during the time my said daughters shall remain unmarried, and until the land
hereinafter mentioned shall be conveyed to them as hereinafter set forth with
the right to enter upon the thirty eight acres north of said homestead during
said time, to procure fire and building timber and lumber for the homestead
family, and for the improvement of the homestead.  My wife shall have the sole
control and management of the said homestead, and of the family during her
life and if she shall be sick or infirm, she shall at all times be well taken
care of by her children and the homestead family in every thing concerning the
same, shall at all times obey her wishes and from and immediately after the
decease of my said wife, and my said daughters shall have married or become
deceased, and my sons Alfred S Sheffield and Thomas J Sheffield, shall have
procured and conveyed to them and, [  ]of them, the land as hereinafter
mentioned [then?] I give and bequeath to my said sons, the said homestead
share and share alike.

Second, I give and bequeath to my said wife all of my personal property
estate, goods and chattels of what nature of kind [  ] the power to use, sell
and dispose of the same, as she may deem most fit and proper for her
maintenance, and the maintenance of the homestead family during her natural
life.  And on the marriage of my said daughters and each of them, she shall
out of said personal property give to my said daughters and each of them a
good bed and bedding, one cow and a calf.  And my wife shall also give to my
son William H Sheffield, one hundred dollars in personal property of such kind
and at such time or times as she thinks best, and from and immediately after
the decease of my said wife, and after my said daughters shall have married or
become deceased, and my said sons shall have conveyed to my said daughters the
land as hereinafter mentioned, then I give and devise such personal estate as
shall then remain to my sons Alfred S Sheffield and Thomas J Sheffield, share
and share alike.

Third: I give and bequeath to my sons Alfred S Sheffield and Thomas J
Sheffield, the fifty acres known as the [children?]son lot, and the thirty
eight acres north of the homestead, subject to the right of the homestead
family to obtain fuel, building timber and lumber as aforesaid.  And my said
sons shall purchase and convey in fee simple to each of my said daughters when
either of them shall marry, [wild?] land situated in the town of Troupsburgh,
in the county of Steuben and state of New York to the value of three hundred
dollars.  And in case my said sons shall procure the same before the time for
conveying the same to my said daughters shall [aquire?], they may improve the
same if they chose, but the improvement shall make no part of the valuation.

And lastly, I do hereby nominate and appoint my wife Mary Sheffield, and my 
brother Richard H Sheffield, and my nephew Charles W Robinson, executrise and 
executors of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills 
by me made.

day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and fifty

Subscribed by Thomas B. Shef[f]ield the testator named in the foregoing will
in our presence and at the time of making such subscription declared by the 
testator to be his last will and testament and each of us signs his name as 
witness at the end of the will at the request of the testator and in his 
presence.
