Joseph Gwynne left the following will:  

I, Joseph Gwynne of Cumberland
Township in the County and state of Pennsylvania, being in a sound
disposing mind and memory and understanding do make constitute and appoint
this my last will and testament.  As it has pleased Almighty God to bless
me with a portion of this world's wealth, I give and dispose of the same in
the following manner (viz) I do hereby order and direct that all my just
and funeral expenses by duly paid as soon as can be conveniently after my
decease.
        2nd I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Esther the house I now live
in and the use and benefit of the farm on which it stands lying between
Joseph Gwynne Jr's line and the lane between the house and barn, together
with the use of half of the farm being at equal expense keeping the barn in
necessary repair and household furniture and kitchen utensils as my
executors shall deem necessary for her to keep house with, also one horse,
Creature, one saddle and bridle, three cows, six sheep, one bed and
bedding, and victualing sufficient for six months after my decease except
the victualing part--the other part to be enjoyed and possessed by her
during her natural life if she so long remain my widow--if otherwise then
it is my will that she have and possess only the personal property above
named and that absolutely: But the use and possession of my real estate no
longer than the days of her widowhood.
        3rd Item I will and bequeath unto my son James Gwynne the sum of fifty
dollars to be paid when convenient for my executors to collect so much of
the proceeds of my estates.
        Item I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph Gwynne five dollars he being
already put in possession of a piece of land by me.
        Item I will unto my son Alfred Gwynne all that part of my farm lying south
of the before mentioned lane to contain one hundred acres and allowance of
six percent to him his heirs and assigns forever on condition of his paying
to my executor or executors the sum of three hundred dollars in six yearly
installments  or payments that is to say fifty dollars in each and every
year from the time of my decease til the whole be paid to be applied by my
executors or executor to the payment of legacies by me hereinafter
mentioned and also to have a share of the fruit until he gets an orchard of
his own.
        I give and bequeath unto my daughters Serena Long, Martha Seaton,
Elizabeth Dowlin and Susanna Long, the sum of two hundred dollars, the same
to be divided between them, the sum to be paid by my executors as soon as
it can be collected out of my estate after my decease according to
agree(ment).
        Item I will and bequeath unto my daughters Anna and Esther Gwynne each one
a bed and bedding, one cow, saddle and bridle, and the sum of one hundred
dollars to be equally divided between them, the same to be paid as soon as
can be collected after my decease and as to the remainder of my personal
estate, if any there be after paying the before mentioned legacies, it is
my will and I hereby direct that the sum of thirty dollars be paid to my
grandson Cephas Gwynne, or put to interest for him until he arrives to the
age of twenty one years, this disposition to be made as soon as
conveniently can be after my decease and the residue or remainder to be
equally divided between my before mentioned daughters and as touching my
real estate hereby willed and bequeathed to my said wife Esther during her
natural life or widowhood as the case may be, it is my will and I hereby
authorize or direct my executors or executor named by me hereinafter to
sell and dispose of the same for such price or prices as can be fairly be
gotten after the decease of my said wife Esther or immediately after her
marriage if that event should happen, and the money thus arising from the
sale of said land or farm to be equally divided between my before named
children, namely James, Joseph, Alfred, Serena, Martha, Elizabeth, Susanna,
Anna and Esther.
        And lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my friends Joseph Kinsey and
William Weaver both of Greene County to be executors of this my will hereby
revoking all former wills and testaments by me heretofore made ratifying
and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.  In
testimony whereof I have herein set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of
August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six.
        Signed sealed and published and declared by the said Testator as his last
will and testament in the presence and at his request have subscribed our
names as witnesses: William Baily, Eli Baily, Joseph Kinsey.
        September 8th 1838 It is my desire that the name of William Weaver may be
stricken out of the above and Eli Baily be inserted in its place, done in
the presence of us the  subscribers this day and year above written.
